Radical Prosport 1400cc SOLD

Price: £15000

Due to a change in my circumstances, I have very reluctantly decided to put my relatively recently acquired Radical Prosport up for sale.

Originally built in 2001, this Prosport is without doubt one of the best known and most widely admired examples in existence. I bought it at the start of this year from the previous long term owner Graham Hill who is due full credit for the superbly well specified, maintained and developed Prosport which you now see in the photographs.

I bought it with the intention of starting to learn the car with a couple of races this year before swapping from my present Caterham race car to the Prosport full time for 2016, but due to several reasons, I have only managed to get out in the Prosport for one race meeting this year and now due to a change in circumstances (both to raise funds and to create some space), it is sadly now offered for sale.

The Car’s History:

Graham bought the car in late 2009 from the previous owner who raced it in the Castle Combe Sports & GT Championship, at that time running it with the ex-works 1299cc Hayabusa engine on flat slide carbs.

In his first season of competitive use in 2010, although the car was cosmetically scruffy as it was in essentially good mechanical order, Graham confined himself to sorting out the basics (such as replacing all the worn rose joints and bushes etc) and worked on the set up and then ran it in the UK Speed Series (alongside the likes of CN Class Ligiers, Norma's Wolf,s etc) comprising 90min endurance type races, with refuelling, the highlight being Graham’s Class C wins at both Brands GP and Oulton Park International.

For the last four years commencing in 2011, Graham has raced the car in the BRSCC OSS Championship, winning Class C in both 2012 and 2013. Indeed in 2012 he was actually tied on equal points for the overall Championship, but was made runner-up because of the particular count-back system which they use.

The car has been constantly improved and meticulously maintained during Graham’s five year plus period of ownership and use:

All engine work has been undertaken by Rob at Mistral Race Engineering in Rochford who are very highly regarded indeed in the world of bike engines; the engine was initially refreshed in 2011, again in 2013 - where the opportunity was taken to increase the capacity to 1398cc, in tandem with substantial head and valve work as well as a bladed crank etc - again in 2014 - when the engine was fully rebuilt with new JE pistons etc – and again in anticipation for the 2015 season, when the engine went back to Mistral for a precautionary refresh, notwithstanding that it had only run for 6.5 hours over the remainder of the 2014 season. It has done less than 3 hours running since that refresh earlier this year.

Graham’s own maintenance regime has been meticulous; oil and filters being changed after every meeting (Silkolene Pro4) and NGK plugs every other meeting. Its Koni 2812 double adjustable dampers have been rebuilt and tested by Paul Drake at Raceline Suspension, with dyno sheets to prove that both the dampers and the springs are all within tolerance.

In 2014, as well as the full engine rebuild, a very comprehensive bodywork and chassis refreshment was undertaken; all the suspension components front and rear including new front wishbones, bushes, bolts etc were replaced and the aero package was comprehensively upgraded at a cost of nearly £3K, comprising an extended carbon rear diffuser, updated side pods with carbon louvres and a high downforce front diffuser with updated fully adjustable drop links to facilitate quick ride height adjustments. The front crash box and towing eye were also updated to suit.

Additional replacement/upgrade items:

New Aeroquip fuel and oil hoses in 2014
New foam to fuel tank in 2014
New fuel pump and Malpassi high pressure regulator in 2013
New re-packable exhaust silencer in 2014
New Wilwood calipers all round in 2014
New wheel bearings all round in 2014
New discs all round in 2014
New battery in 2013
New fire extinguisher in 2015

Other Specification Items:

Centre lock wheel hubs
Pi data logger
Wiring loom for Autotel pit to car radio
Carbon wing end plates
Carbon brake cooling ducts
Geartronics gear indicator
Willans Pro six point belts with alloy adjusters (in date)

Considered by many to be Radical’s best-ever car, this particular Prosport is very well maintained, has been constantly developed and is almost certainly one of the most competitive Prosports around. It is an exceptional car; Graham is now running a 1440cc PR6 and his best lap time at Snetterton 200 earlier this year in very comparable conditions was less than 3/10ths quicker than his best in this Prosport!

Available but not included in the asking price is a huge selection of spares, including a spare front body, wheels, diff, wishbones, air jack system, fuel churn, drive-shafts, sprockets, hubs, brake calipers etc. The buyer of the car will be given first refusal on these spares by separate negotiation.

Please feel free to call me with any questions and/or to make arrangements to view the car. Further photographs are available upon request.

Best Regards
